| The ACO is the organizing entity for the Le Mans 24 Hour race and they call the signals for WHO races @ Le Mans.
This year, 88 entries for 55 spots. 22 entries are GT1 [7 GT1's are pre-qualified based on winning races and championships in the US ALMS and European LMES series. But, 3 of those are Maserati's- banned for being too wide, leaving only 3 Corvettes- P&M and Luc Alphand and 1 Prodrive Aston assured a race start].
22. Dat's a lotta GT1's!! But, WHO else and HOW MANY get to race Le Mans is another mystery, as the ACO admission rules are somewhat qualitative [read them for yourself here]
* 2 car limit per team [Check!]. * Fame of the competitor [OK...]. * Previous Le Mans record [Effete private clubbers!]. * Regular entry in ALMS or LMES [....Makes sense]. * Recommended race entry prior to Selection Committee meeting [...Interview meetings? Should we bring cake?]. * Car quality [Sorry Tata Nano!]. * Technical interest [You built a GT1 car out of balsa wood to save weight?]. * Legal / financial relationship with the ACO ["Jean-Claude, Tony Soprano to see you."]. * Protecting the privateers [John Edwards' new lament, "There are 2 Le Mans!"]. * Etc. [WE swear it's IN the rules! Page 4, Section 3.4.2].
22 GT1 entries. BBV won't scream, "Bring 'em on!" as that hasn't worked for ANYONE. But, the team IS motivated to take back their 5-time champion's crown, so..... |
