| Hot, hot, hot....that was the theme of the weekend. Quite the opposite from the wet and cold French countryside a few weeks ago. But none of that mattered to Corvette Racing.
The Corvettes qualified 3rd and 5th. The BMWs were clearly the fastest cars at Lime Rock, locking out the front row.
The #4 Corvette, driven by Oliver Gavin at the time, was nearly ran off the track at the start of the race by ex-Corvette driver Olivier Beretta in the #62 Ferrari. The Ferrari made contact and ripped off the Corvette's driver side mirror. The team had to make an unscheduled pit stop to replace the mirror, per the rules, putting them nearly a lap behind and in last place. A later pit stop saw an uncharacteristic error by the team, leaving the data jack attached to the car as the car pulled out of the pit box. Luckily no one was hurt, but the team acquired a stop and go penalty putting them another lap back. Drivers Gavin and Milner did a great job to come back as high as 4th and finished 6th.
The guys in the #3 Corvette continued their success with a great show, chasing the #56 BMW for the entire second half of the race but just coming up short in the end to finish 2nd. Traffic may have been the ultimate factor in the end.
Unfortunately the #56 BMW's victory means that Dirk Muller extends his points lead on Gavin and Milner. Magnussen and Garcia, with two good results in a row, are closing the gap.
