So what do you make of this?
It seems that for the '08 Le Mans race, AM is going to be wearing the Gulf livery of the classic Ford GT40 that won Le Mans 40 years ago.
We're really impressed.
So now that Aston Martin is NOT a Ford, let's paint them like a Ford?
Somebody please tell them that trying to adopt another's legend does not make you yourself a legend - racing does.
So, this seems like a perfect time to remind them that there are 12 other races that they have forgotten to sign up for.
But, then again that would mean they would have to race AGAINST a legend.......... |
I think you guys are all missing the point here. Sponsorship from Gulf Oil means money. Money Prodrive never got from Ford when they owned Aston Martin. All Prodrive got from the deal with Ford was 25 VIN numbers which they could use to make and sell customer cars. The idea was that that strategy would pay for the racing. It didn't.
With massive sponsorship money from Gulf Oil Prodrive will be able to spend in the same league as GM. And let's not forget that Prodrive beat Corvette Racing at Le Mans last year where the DBR9s got no rule breaks.
And least you forget, Prodrive came within a cat's whisker of beating Corvette Racing in the 2004 ALMS championship when they were running a Ferrari 550.
It's not fear of competition that is keeping Prodrive out of ALMS, it's money, or more specifically the lack thereof. If Prodrive gets serious cash out of the Gulf Oil deal look for them to be back in ALMS.
And if you're a race fan you want them back in competition because let's face it, GT1 in 2007 was a bore. And I'm a Corvette racing fan and Z06 owner.
