more, more, and more stupid prototypes. I think they are responsible for throwing the series down the crapper. People want to see cars that are like the ones that are on the street. This is why I dont care for NASCAR, IRL, or F1. Prototypes would not have stood a chance against the GT1 car if they took the engine restrictions off.

85L98 - Your an idiot.
Thats all.

Its not the prototypes, its the fact that NASCAR leapfrogged everybody after Earnhardt Sr. got killed in the '01 Daytona 500 and everybody is playing catch-up or trying to run their series into the ground a la IRL. The ALMS will get there, if all the classes become as crowded and competitive as the GT2 field ALMS will catch up!

Chalk another one up to the New GM...selling some more engines through GMP! The business plan is working... Should make for interesting racing for sure. Not a big prototype fan but they are fun to watch and it's quality racing. Glad to see ALMS streamlining the two major classes.

Do we have linkies to prove this? I'm weary of a FLMP3 class, unless it is used as a transition to 2011 P2 rules. I love the P1 and P2 classes being combined - that'll shut up the dumbass GARRA fans.

Well good luck with those, I wonder how many people will still like these dinky toys when they are being overtaken by even the slowest of the GT challenge cars (whatever those may be) Leave the snailpace cars for Grand Am and real cars for LMS, Le Mans and ALMS. These cars are one make with one engine, almost like A1GP! don't get me wrong, I love Corvette racing, the road going Corvettes that is.

@ 85l98 - There are MANY of us who care about the LMPs. If you just wanted to go see cars race that looked like street cars, there are tons of different venues to do so. There are very few venues to see extremely wild full bodied sports cars like LMPs. The seris wouldn't BE the series without them. The LMPs have had nothing to do with ruining the series. It's been a combination of the economy tanking and the Greedy fucks over at nascar wanting to either own or destroy all racing in America. And NO, a restricorless GT1 car would not lap faster than an LMP1. It might go down the straights faster, but it'd have to brake much earlier for every turn and it still has only a fraction of the aerodynamic grip of LMPs which is really what makes them so quick around a lap in the first place.
@ Roy - In Europe, the Formula Le Mans cars (what will be our Le Mans Challenge) lap much faster than any of the GT2 cars. They're slower than the current LMP2 cars faster than what was GT1.
End rant.

I like it I see no point in a P1 and P2 category, when some races have shown that P2 can be as fast as the P1 class. And considering you guys are posting on a pro-gm site I would think you guys would be excited to see American power in an LMP car.

@ Mike, you are right, I checked again and they are faster then the GT2 cars. Sorry for the mistake. I just got the feeling that they are to slow, cause I watched them going up eau-rouge at Spa, and they were really struggling for grip. I guess it is nice to see a packed field in ALMS, it is just sad to see it has to be filled with slow one-make LMP cars. But that must be down to the economy and that other raceseries (which we don't consider racing here in Europa at all) trying to ruin everything that is competition. I will come to Florida once more next year march and hope to see at least 40 cars entered in the Sebring 12 hour race.

I'm not a big fan of these spec-series type of cars, GM power or not. I've watched prototype cars for many years at Sebring and Daytona and nothing has been more boring than the current Daytona prototypes. Hopefully these cars won't be as bad as those. I believe spec series prototypes will only be interesting to the participants.
--- JerryL from Miami on 08.18.09 at 12:08am
Hey Joel B/ Miami: BBV is not owned by GM (although it might attract pro GM folks...)
The ALMS P1 & P2 rules are not the same as the ACO/ LeMans rules... they were adjusted to allow for some good ole competition. How do you market that two superior, Audi diesels are going to race themselves leaving racy Acura, Mazda & Porsches to race for 3rd place (but 1st in their P2 class.
This was done by restricting the P1 cars & allowing the P2 cars to race for overall wins. No P2 car has scored an overall win in '09...

Just a note to everyone here. There's been NO mention of the ALMS versions of the FLM cars will be Chevy powered. Due to the fact that the cars will be built in Georgia by Elan (Panoz), it's quite possibly they may get Elan (Ford) power for the ALMS.
