all I have read is that Jan ended up in a wall... is this true and if so how?

I listened to the race on ALMS radio and tracked the lap times...without being there or seeing it, it looked like the C6R was at least a 1/2 second lap faster at the end. Jan set the fastest race lap time, nearly equaling the qualifying pace, but the #45 Lizard basically blocked the last 10 minutes of the race. At one point With 2 minutes left, Jan passed the Lizard, but was ruled to have gone off racing line and had to let Bergmeister back in front...on the last lap, last turn the Lizard claimed that the Vette hit him from behind (Inevitable as slow as the Porsche was going), and as Jan pulled by the Porsche, Bergmeister admitted on ALMS radio that he was not going to let Jan by...he wrecked Jan into the wall instead of letting him pass and the rest is history. The Lizard blocks for the last 10 minutes, gets help from the officials and then forces Jan into the wall for the win. All those years of Porsche racing history and that is the only way they could best the C6R on this day.

I was sitting in the stands when I watched Bergmeister put Jan in the wall. A prime example of a Porsche driver...

Jan never hit the porsche of bergmeister, but bergmister pushed the corvette in the wall.

If you read some of Mags comments, he said's it was good clean racing and doesn't understand why bergmeister keep turning in on him, until he forced him into the wall.

Watching the race now... while it sounds like we ended up on the wrong end of a block, which does suck, keep in mind our Vettes did some punting of their own Saturday.

I applauded the officials for making Jan give the position back after the (illegal) pass on pit out. I am still pissed at the officials for allowing the Porsche to block him for the last 20 minutes.

Yeah, so I have to agree, that was bad and quite unsafe. Gavin just made a bonehead mistake at the beginning, but not a blatant move like Bergmeisters.

Jan Magnussen, Ultimate BadBoy indeed! Ballsy move to pass in the PAVED pit-out area, still not unsure why or when it was decided a pass in that area of the track was 'illegal' but oh well. He put it on the Lizard when he went past him without a doubt. The 3 car was the fastest in GT2 for the last 30 minutes. Gotta applaud Jan for his patience and not just flat out moving the Lizard out of the way. Gotta get some anti-Lizard decals ready for Sebring 2010....GT class in 2010 is going to be a war with NO PRISONERS!

I just saw the crash, it was quite a big impact. The important thing is that nobody got hurt and i also agree that bergmeister didnt have to do what he did. However if the shoe was on the other foot i imagine that people would dismiss that as a racing incident.

I don't think that my Corvette bias would allow me to side with Mags if he had spent 10 minutes blocking and using his car as a weapon like Bergmeister did...and then wrecked the competing car as he pulled up for the pass...for Christ's sake you could see Bergmeister turning in to Mags. I think I heard Bergmeister after the race thank the Flying Lizrd, Penzoil, Coca-Cola, Mars, Viagra #45 crew and utter the immortal words..."rubbin's racin!"

This is exactly what Corvette Racing needs, all of ALMS for that matter! Competition and rivalry, yeah! The last few years has been like watching the Blue Angels or the Thunderbirds... a pretty spectacular show for the eyes and ears! But now this is racing and these incidents are what fuel the fire, bring the passion, anger, joy... bring it on 2010! I want to buy a shirt with a lizard hangin' out of Jake's mouth before the next season starts!

Screx0472 - you left out Jorgie saying Mags used the ol' chrome horn on him goin' inta the last turn and thanking the boys back at the Lizard engine shop! Check out the Corvette Forum pic post a couple of articles up - that tells the story. Just got turned after he took the lead.
