| OK, if this report IS true and Corvette C7 is moving from its OHV Thumpin's Thunder V8 tradition -
* 3.0L V8 * Overhead Cams * High-Rev Redline / Rev-Band * Turbocharging
....then perspective and trust may be the called-for reaction.
PERSPECTIVE - All along Corvette C7 has been promised as a continued evolution of what always made vette great - innovation and tip-of-spear tech.
And the competition continues to get more exotic with its technologies, drive dynamics, and performance sophistication. Not just at Ferrari price-points, either. Corvette levels, too. C7 is likely NOT to be the radical abandonment of front-drive tradition to mid-engine exotica. But, to stay true to the Mark Reuss "completely different" statement, could mean more than just new styling, the long-awaited improved interior, and a next-gen OHV V8.
Plus, remember the rumored dual-clutch gearbox and even AWD? Would the world really be worse-off with a high-rev / tech-advanced Corvette?
And who wants to bet Corvette buyers will have options, many options to order up and build a 'traditional' vette or GTR-style tech parity?
TRUST - Perish the though Corvette execs connected the dots between the current Corvette, current sales levels, current owner demographics, and the psychographics of younger / more global performance car enthusiasts.
Yes, Corvette has been down the exotica road before. But, these are different times and a more advanced Corvette development team.
And imagine the C7R all this would spawn? !!
So, after a thoughtful moment, what do YOU think? |
