Corvette Racing came to Circuit of the Americas 1-2 in the championship points with the #4 crew leading by only 2 points over the #3 crew, and the #56 BMW team hanging closely in reach in 3rd.

Texas seen a massive storm late in the week with approximately 2.5" of rain in Austin on Thursday night and all day Friday.

This being sportscar racing, the show continued and qualifying proceeded in the wet. All cars were mandated to run marked rain tires. The Vettes managed to pull out a P2 and 3 result, with BMW P1 and 4. The #56 BMW (3rd in the points) had to move to the back of the grid after not marking their tires in qualifying.

Come race day there was no rain in sight and made for one of the best sportcar races in recent memory. The GT battle was hot and heavy from start to finish with Corvette, Viper, and BMW battling back and forth for the entire 2hr 45min.

All was not good news though, with the championship points leading #4 Corvette having gearbox issues early in the race and resulting in a DNF. The gearbox seems to be the Achilles heel of the Corvette C6.R and has caused Corvette Racing several very important races in the last few years. Very frustrating.

To cap things off, the #3 Corvette C6.R driven by Antonio Garcia in the final stages of the race managed to hold off the #56 BMW while struggling for grip. With only a few minutes left in the race the #93 Viper battled back through the field and mounted a pass on the BMW, putting an end to the pressure on the Corvette. Garcia and Magnussen took their second victory in a row and third of the season.

ALMS GT Points after COTA:
112 - Garcia / Magnussen
-13 - Mueller
-18 - Gavin / Milner
-23 - Farnbacher / Goossens
