2014 Sebring 12hr: Race Recap
2014 Sebring 12hr: Race Recap
March 17 2014 01:20:02 AM EST
As usual, competition in GTLM was incredible, and as usual, Sebring didn't make it easy on anyone.

Top 6 GTLM cars were within 0.3 seconds in Qualifying, with Corvette Racing P4 & P5.

Race day was a mix of highs and lows. The #3 Corvette suffered body damage and went down a lap for repairs. The team fought back and lead the race only to have a fuel pump failure cause them to go 4 laps down. Ultimately finishing P8.

The #4 Corvette ran a nearly flawless race for 10.5hr. The car was in the class lead until Oliver Gavin spun coming out of turn 17 allowing the leading Porsche to make the pass. Shortly after the spin, the car developed similar fuel pump issues and the car did not have the pace for the final 30min to fight back. The #4 finished P6.

The ultimate results shadow what was actually a great performance for the new C7.Rs. Corvette Racing lead the class 1-2 for a portion of the race, and was in contention for victory. In the end, that's racing. The team showed that it's the best, most prepared, and most organized in the business.

Outside of the US, the Formula 1 season started in Melbourne, Australia. Jan Magnussen's son, Kevin Magnussen made his F1 debut is remarkable fashion, qualifying P4 and finishing on the podium! Needless to say, Kevin's dad was overjoyed as he watched at his Sebring condo with his team and friends. We look forward to watching the young Mags as he proceeds through his career at the top stage.
